Food scene

Creative fusion cuisine at reasonable prices. A lot of seafood, including some great Peruvian dishes, alongside pastas, risottos, steak and ribs. It's all delicious and well presented, but the ceviches and tuna tataki are outstanding. The service is also excellent.

Argentinan little steakhouse in Manila that serves up choice cuts at reasonable prices. Make sure to order a couple of its famous empanadas to begin with. Service is top-notch and there is sometimes live music.

Previously the most dangerous neighbourhood in the world’s most dangerous city, Comuna 13 doesn’t seem like the kind of place that would attract a lot of tourist attention— and yet it’s probably the single most important place to visit while in Medellín. These days, Comuna 13 is more readily associated with graffiti, street art performances and walking tours. New infrastructure, including a metro cable and six outdoor escalators, has made life in Comuna 13 a whole lot easier for residents and opened the area up to tourists like never before.

Laureles neighbourhood Estadio, where you’ll find the Atanasio Girardot futbol stadium. Here Medellin’s two teams, Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellin, play matches. Attending a game while you’re in Medellin is an absolute must. The Atanasio Girardot complex also features a massive athletic facility that’s open to the public upon registering and creating a reservation. Take advantage of running tracks, swimming pools of many shapes and sizes, a skate park, soccer fields, basketball courts and more. Additionally, aerobics classes like Zumba, and even salsa, are offered in the evening for free! They usually meet at the outdoor stage near the fountain, unless it rains.

It is rare to find a spot of soft grass in the heart of Poblado, however not far from the night-time revelry of Parque Lleras and the more plaza-like Parque Poblado, you will find Parque Lineal La Presidenta, a perfect spot to lay your head/hangover. Located just off Avenida Poblado and alongside the imposing looking Dann Carlton Hotel, the park is a funnel-shaped green space with a stream running through the center. The well-kept gardens host a variety of plant life, along side some specially red-painted trees. As well as the plant life and the good old green stuff, there is a well-equipped outdoor gym with all the machines you need for a bit of exercise. The main attraction for many who visit though is the weekly farmers market which runs on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Here, you can pick up some fresh, locally made produce and healthy goodies after your workout or stroll in the park.

City/town information

Guatapé is the perfect place to visit to get away from the hustle and bustle of Medellin and enjoy some fun outdoor activities, from kayaking to mountain biking. The main reason that people visit Guatape is to climb the famous Rock of Guatape – also known as El Penol Rock – to enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding islands and lakes of the artificial Guatape reservoir. There are 740 steps to get to the top, so it’s not exactly a relaxing experience, but it’s worth it for the stunning views. Guatape itself is a truly lovely little town, made all the more appealing by its brightly colored walls and zocalos (wainscotting, basically). The zocalos feature paintings depicting the town’s history, and the colors make for a truly photogenic little town. Sitting in one of the plazas and watching the world go by with a fresh coffee is a must-do activity on any trip to Guatape.
