Chimney Rock is a beautiful park to visit. It is a short drive over the mountain on Hwy. 74. This would be a day trip to combine with a visit to Lake Lure where parts of "Dirty Dancing" was filmed...... most specifically the "walking bridge scene". There are several shops and restaurants located at the foot of Chimney Rock to fill your appetite.

Sightseeing
Plan an all day visit to experience the grandeur of the largest home in American. There are 250 rooms, 8000 acres, gardens, a winery, and wonderful restaurants. Aside from touring the house, my favorite thing to do is walk along the river on paved trails ending at Antler Hill where you can dine outside at Cedric's. There are other restaurants on site that are also very good. I would suggest exploring the website and getting there early as it does get crowded.

151 WT Weaver BoulevardThis is a wonderful place to spend time "mulling around", taking in the grand lobby with a drink in hand. It is a historic inn, visited by a number of presidents and celebrities. The original part of the inn is built of massive stones and as I imagine was a feat in 1913. The Sunset Terrace provides a wonderful meal and great views of the Asheville sunset over Mount Pisgah. If a meal in not in your plan, there are plenty of places to relax outside and take in the views. They are especially impressive in the fall when the leaves have turned. The resort is also know for its world class spa and beautiful golf course.

The Blue Ridge Parkway stretches miles through Asheville with multiple easy accesses. The Blue Ridge Parkway (part of the U.S. National Park Service) runs north and south from Asheville with plenty of spots for roadside picnics, and breathtaking views. It's one of the most scenic routes in America. Headed about 30 miles South on the parkway is Mount Pisgah. There is a Inn at the peak with a nice restaurant. Guests enjoy the restaurant with windows that surround the main dining room and overlook a panoramic view. Seating for the dining room is on a strictly “first come, first seated basis.” It is also open only during the warm season. From the Inn, a 2 mile hike is a fun thing to do taking in all the scenery along the edge of the mountain and discovering where George Vanderbuilt's hunting lodge was located.
To the North 19 miles is Mount Mitchell at 6,089 ft. and the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. 360 degree views and 8 miles of hiking trails within the park.
