Possibly the best burger place in NZ and they're sold out of a food truck. It’s located in the Liardet Street Projects and there's also vietnamese, poke bowls, spanish and indian food trucks that sell some great meals. If you're not sure what you want this is the place to go, there's even a bar.

Great Japanese style food in a cosy setting. Great for couples or small groups. Or alternatively for larger groups sit in the shared area for Ms Whites and Itch Wine Bar and choose from the whole selection. Ideally located, only 10 minute walk away.

Best fish and chip shop in town. It is expensive and the portions are quite small but I think it's worth it. Alternatively for value for money try Blowfish Takeaways. Wherever you pick I thoroughly recommend taking them to Back Beach for dinner with a view.

If it's sunny out this is the spot you want to be. The views aren't world class but eating great food, enjoying a drink and being out in the sun more than makes up for it.

Taranaki Maunga is a must visit location if the weather is good when you're in New Plymouth. If you're not climbing to the summit there's the family friendly Goblin Forest, Dawson Falls or Wilkies Pools tracks. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous the Pouakai Tarns track offers one of the most photographed sights in Taranaki, it is a 4-5 hour return track (mentally prepare for a lot of stairs but 100% worth it)

Pack your bag planning to spend a fair bit of time outside but don't forget warm clothes and a jacket. You'll be wanting a good pair of walking shoes.

Public Transport isn't great
There are public busses but they don't run frequently or very far. Thankfully we're located a short walk to the CBD. It is highly recommended to travel with a personal vehicle to get the most of your experience in Taranaki
