Endless hikes and overlooks along Skyline Drive. Park Entrances are at Front Royal and Thorton Gap (Luray). The regular entrance fee is $30 per vehicle and is good for 7 days. Visit NPS Recreation website to purchase your pass online and skip the lines during busy season. Visit NPS website for scheduled Ranger Tours. Open 24/7 unless closed due to snow. (~50 min drive to either entrance)
Mary’s Rock Trail- 3.1 mile out and back- Allow 1.5-2 hours. Dogs allowed. Level- Moderate. You don’t need to drive through the park entrance booth to access this hike. Simply turn right into the Panorama parking area just before the Thorton Gap entrance when coming from Luray. (~50 min drive)
Fox Hollow to Dickey Ridge Loop- 4.8 miles, Allow 2-3 hours. No dogs. Level- Easy. Water crossings. Also great for running, with some hills. Access the trail from the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center by Front Royal entrance or from the park entrance sign just before the fee booth. (~50 min drive)
Hazel Run- 5.3 miles. Allow 5-6 hours. Dogs allowed. Level- Moderate. Has 2 small waterfalls. Enter through Thorton Gap and go south to Meadow Spring Parking Area. (~50 min drive).
Lands Run Falls- 1.3 miles. Allow 1-2 hours. Dogs allowed. Level- Moderate. Quick hike down a fire road to a large waterfall. Just prepare to go back up! Enter through Front Royal. Parking lot is 9 miles down on the right. There is no sign, so keep your eyes peeled! (~50 min drive)
Cedar Run- White Oak Circuit- 8.1 miles Allow 6-7 hours. Dogs allowed. Level- Difficult. Lots of waterfalls! Enter through Thorton Gap and go south to Hawksbill Gap Parking. (1hr, 15 min drive)
Old Rag Mountain- 9.4 miles lollipop, Allow 5-7 hours. No dogs. Level- Difficult, with rock scrambling the last half mile. Great views. NOTE: Now requires day use tickets! These must be purchased online for $1 at NPS Recreation website. There are no on-site purchase options. (1hr, 15 min drive)
