The museum shows the permanent exhibition Home Ideas as well as changing exhibitions that range from contemporary architecture to historical subjects. The museum's collection includes drawings and photographs, as well as models and objects.
The main building was designed by Christian Heinrich Grosch and was completed in 1890 as a branch office for Norges Bank. The building, rebuilt and built by Sverre Fehn, is a juxtaposition of classicist and modernist architecture, a meeting between Fehn and Grosch - the most important Norwegian architects from the 19th century and our own time, respectively.
