Fêtes
France has some really spectacular festivals throughout the year and particularly in the summer months. If you happen to be here on any of their celebrated dates, these are my recommendations:
21st June - La Fête de la Musique
Celebrated on the summer solstice across France in villages and cities, musicians gather in the streets, bars, and cafés, playing all genres of music giving free public performances. I highly recommend going to Narbonne where the whole city is alive with music, sights, lights, and dancing.

14 July - Bastille Day
The biggest and most important festival in the French calendar. It commemorates the day that Parisians stormed the fortress and prison of Bastille. This provoked events that lead to the end the monarchy and ushered in the age of liberty, fraternity, and equality. Celebrations are held all over France. I highly recommend seeing the fireworks and celebrations at Carcassonne but there are also fantastic events on the coast and local villages like Bize-Minervois.
