In Portugal, car chairs or boosters are mandatory to children under 12. Fines are between 120€ and 600€ per child. Children can sit in the front seat ONLY if the car doesn’t have rear seats; the car doesn’t have safety belts in the back seats; children up to 3 (and up to 13kg), with rear-facing restraint system and airbags switched off. Car chair for children until 7 (or below 135 cm in height or weighing less than 36kg). Booster for children above 7 and until 12 (or above 135cm in height). From 12 onwards (or when reaches 150cm), children can ride in the front seat and without booster.

There are electronic tolls in the highway that crosses the entire Algarve (A22). If you rent a car, you will be asked if you want the electronic toll device. If you plan to drive around fast, it's recommended. There's fee around 20€ for the device and an additional deposit around 60€. You can find more info about the toll system online at portugaltolls (dot) com. All other national roads are free, just slower.
