The Merry Maidens is on route to the Minack Theatre. The local myth is that nineteen maidens were turned into stone as punishment for dancing on a Sunday. (Dans Maen translates as Stone Dance.) The Pipers, two megaliths some distance north-east of the circle, are said to be the petrified remains of the musicians who played for the dancers.

Lovely place to visit for the history, peace and quiet (not touristy) and walking. There is no entry charge to Ding Dong mine which lies in an old and extensive mining area situated in the parish of Madron, in Penwith, Cornwall, England, two miles south of the St Just to Penzance road. Ding Dong looks out over Mount's Bay and St Michael's Mount to the south west. Since 2006 the site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, part of Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape.

There is a car park at the foot of Trencrom and fantastic views of both sides of the coast from the top. A very pleasant walk up to the top, you can go down the other side and then take the foot path around the base of the hill back to the car park.
