Toronto boasts a beautiful but underused waterfront and one of the most special places in Toronto is Toronto Island. This is a pedestrian/bike only Island that has a number of beaches and is home to a unique island community. Hanlans point is the most popular tourist destination with a zoo, amusement rides and a beach. Wards beach is also beautiful and far less busy. We would recommend renting a bike at Hanlans beach and touring around. There are family pedal carts which can accommodate four people and are easy to use even if you are not an expert biker. In order to get to the Island, you need to take a Ferry from the Toronto Island Ferry Terminal Downtown which can be accessed by subway from Union station or more easily via Taxi/Uber. The ferries are extremely busy on the weekends with locals going to visit the beach so visit on the weekdays if you can. The ferry is economical and you only pay one way. They all leave from the same terminal so make sure you get on the Hanlans ferry if you want to rent a bike and tour around. You can return again on the same Ferry. We would recommend eating lunch at the Rectory Café or Island Café, both located near the Ward Island Ferry terminal. Toronto Island is a great all day destination for the whole family! The link to the ferry terminal is: http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=3690dada600f0410VgnVCM10000071d60f89RCRD or google “ Toronto Islands Ferry Schedule”
