On the plateau of the Carso, divided between Italy and Slovenia, the "osmiza" (Slovene osmica) is a typical place where to drink wines and eat foods (such as eggs, ham, salami and cheese) directly on the premises and in the cellars of the farmers who produce them. Osmica are typical of the whole Carso plateau (both in Friuli-Venezia Giulia as the Slovenian coast) and a large part of the Vipava Valley in Slovenia. In recent decades, the tradition has spread to Istria Slovenia (particularly in the municipality of Koper).
