Great Chinese spot (authentic Chinese - not fast food). Love that they will seat you wherever there's space so you will often wind up sharing a table with strangers and perhaps make new friends.

Guess you need to have a love of Matcha. My favorite is the ginger tumeric with macadamia milk. It's a bit expensive but worth the splurge.

Coolest Japanese Speakeasy. Looks like there's nothing exciting on the outside. Walk down the stairs and into a rather dirty looking (and sometimes smelly) room and ask for a table. If lucky to get table they will let you past rope/curtain and into next room. The sake is amazing and the food is great too. Just note that this place has a grimy look/feel so you need to be cool with that.

This is one of the best hidden gems of the city! A must for music lovers, and even those who are not. It’s a music shop with every kind of old instrument imaginable and looks like it’s still in the 17-1800s (probably hasn’t been renovated since). It may also look a bit familiar due to its being in many popular movies and TV series. Oh and on random nights there are often open Mike nights or jam nights for about $5 entry. One of the most unique and authentic spots in all of NYC…
