The art collection includes many outstanding European artworks, including works by the Old Masters (Rembrandt van Rijn, Gerard de Lairesse, and Jozef Israel), French Impressionists (such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Vincent van Gogh and Mary Cassatt), Dutch Renaissance, Scottish Colourists and exponents of the Glasgow School. Every great Art Gallery has a must see item. The Louvre has Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa", The Rijksmuseum Rembrandt's "The Nightwatch" and The Prado Velasquez's "Las Meninas". Kelvingrove has Dali's stunning "The Christ of St John of the Cross". Purchased by the City Council in 1952 for £8,200. It is rumoured a few years ago that the Spanish Government offered £80 million to purchase it.

It has previously been acclaimed as the best park in Britain and in 2008 it was named the Best Park in Europe. Pollok Country Park is famous for its Highland Cattle fold and its Clydesdale Heavy Horses. It also contains the National Trust owned Pollok House and the Burrell Collection (which will close in October 2016 for extensive refurbishment).

15 minutes walk from our house, Newlands Park is a small but pretty park with impressive flower beds and trails. The old tennis pavilion now houses the acclaimed Dandelion Cafe, which provides excellent lunches and homemade baking.
