Canyonlands National Park is one of 5 fantastic national parks, with Arches being one of the most popular. Canyonlands is huge, with 3 disdinct sections separated by the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers.
The closest is the Island In the Sky Section, with the park HD about 45 minutes north and west of Moab. Get spectacular views of the canyons from above, visit Mesa Arch (sunrise here is a life changing experience), or do some reserach to find hidden spots. Lots of great trails is you are an experienced 4x4 driver as well.
Not as busy as Arches, you can usually find a location almost to yourself.

Only about 45 minutes from Moab, it can be combined easily with a trip to the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands. A great place to bring a picnic dinner and a bottle of wine and watch the sunset!

No need for a car for this one - it's less than 1/4 mile walk to one of the most unique rock art sites in the Moab area, and that is saying something! Look for all the unique characters, including 'Moab Man' For photos, best when it is lit by the late afternoon sun to increase contrast.
