this is an epic spot that used to be even more free-spirited than today (Google it if you don’t know it!). Christiania is like the free haven for people that have opted out of the controlled society, and you can get joints and vegan street food here as well as listen to concerts in the summer (Google the Nemoland program – think they have a gig going on every Sunday night but have a look). Also have smaller venues playing concerts there, Google Christiania concerts! Make sure to take a walk around the whole of Christiania, including the pedestrian paths taking you through the residential areas along the water – you will see the most fairy-tale like houses, constructed by true artists and dre

Take your bike and ride along the Lakes (“Søerne”). It’s a 5-minute ride from my apartment. You can type in “Sortedams Sø” in Google maps, and it should take you in the right direction. There’s a bike path on the inner lane of the lakes so you avoid the car traffic – I recommend this side of the lakes as this will also take you past some cute places. When you come from my place, the bike lane will be on the right side of the lakes (so cross the street, then take a right turn to join the bike lane on the right – pedestrians are on the gravel road by the lake, the bikes are one level up).

Getting Around

Start off by getting yourself a bike – this will be your most important friend and most local way to experience the city. Copenhagen is the capital of bikes! Walk up to Østerport, cross the street towards Hotel Østerport. When you are facing the hotel, a few steps to the right of the hotel you will see a staircase leading down as if you were going down onto the train tracks. Here you’ll find Pedalatleten Østerport, where you can rent a legit bike for your stay (yes, the town has city bikes – Bycyklen - but they are expensive, and you can’t dock them everywhere). However, for shorter stays, it may be easier to use the Bycyklen stations located in front of Østerport train station building, or
