Lynmouth, a 15 minute drive from Oaklands or an enjoyable hour's walk down the East Lyn River, has a charming small harbour and a dog-friendly shingle beach, overlooked by the Rhenish Tower. The Exmoor National Park Visitor Centre is in Lynmouth by the sea front. Lynmouth has restaurants, pubs, fish and chips shops and a selection of tourist shops Boat tours and fishing trips are available from the harbour. Distance: 4-5 miles from Oaklands.

About half a mile west of Lynton, the Valley of Rocks is a dry valley that runs parallel to the coast. It is noted for its herd of goats, its geology and its dramatic scenery and stunning views along the Exmoor coast. The Valley offers great walks but for those more adventurous, the coastal cliffs here are amongst the highest in Britain and provide a real challenge for climbing enthusiasts.
