Your host will meet you at the entrance to the Fort at 08:00 AM / 4:30 PM. Your host is a local and his masterful knowledge of the town and its history will show you the layers below the colorful beauty of Galle. The Dutch Fort of Galle has been an icon since 1400 BC. At the start, it was famous for cinnamon exportation. The Portuguese made Galle their headquarters on arrival and destroyed many important monuments which were in the area. The initial earth and palisade fort built by the Portuguese was later expanded on by the Dutch. The Dutch Fort was intricately designed with high stone ramparts and bastions. Buildings for administration and residency renovated streets and added advancements such as stormwater drains were added to the complex. Today much of the Dutch fort still stands. You will be able to climb the ramparts of the fort, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and walk through the streets. Your host will also take you to museums filled with antiquities of old. You will also visit the British-built Galle lighthouse. Enjoy a cup of fine Ceylon Tea or a drink of King Coconut milk along the way. Your walk will be completed back at the Dutch Fort at 10:30 AM / 6:00 PM. We will start the Jeep tour from your hotel in Tissamaharama, Yala, Kataragama or main entrance of the Park near the car park. Once we go through the standard process of entry into the park, we will venture into the untamed wild of Yala which is infamous for the Leopards and Elephant Gathering. Soon we will make our way to the banks of the stunning Parks Reservoirs. You will get to see groups of crocodiles resting in the banks or swimming about the lakes, vibrant birds of prey going fishing and also many other birds and animals including herds of elephants, leopards visiting to quench their thirst and take a rest. The sight of elephants is the real treat at Yala and their unique scent is a good indicator to choose the trails where you are guaranteed to see as many Elephants, Leopards as possible. Upon completion of the tour, we will bring you back to the park entrance or to hotel.
