A drive across these spectacular Moors en-route to Whitby is very worthwhile. September brings amazing purple heather. Stop at Goathland (where Heartbeat was filmed) and walk to Mallyan Spout waterfall from the car park. North Yorks Moors Railway is good for rail enthusiasts.
