Sightseeing

Laguna Quilotoa is just one of the highlights of the area. But it is a must see! You can do so many activities right there. 1. Hike down to the water and rent a kayak and paddle the circumference of the lake and ride a mule back up. 2. Hike all around the crater rim reaching heights of up to 12,800 feet - 3,900 meters. It takes 4-6 hours. 3. Hike part way around the crater rim and then head down through the canyon and up to Chugchilan, also 4-6 hours.

The location shown on this map is for the Iliniza Twin Peaks, but the photos are all taken in the reserve near Chugchilan. The high altitude cloud forest of the Iliniza Ecological Reserve shows the diversity of the natural environment in the high Andes. There are small waterfalls, moss covered trees like jungle, orchids and mushrooms. This can be done as a day hike or horseback riding from the Black Sheep Inn.
