Beginner Surf Lesson - Santa Cruz
Beginner Surfing l is our popular 2.5-hour group surf clinic. So what will you be learning? This clinic was designed with the beginner in mind – we welcome complete newbies as well as people who have tried surfing on their own for a while and still need help. We will walk you through all the basics to get you started and catching waves! There will be a short land-lesson to start, and after that we'll head out to catch some waves. You'll get approximately 1:30-2 hours of "water time" in the 2.5-hour class. Maximum ratio of 4 students per instructor.
FAQ: Why are some of these class times SOOO early?!
Answer: When it comes to surfing, mother nature sets a lot of the rules - that's what makes it such a unique sport. If we don't go on the right tide, we won't get any waves! While those early morning sessions might be hard to wake up for, they are also truly magical. Great surf conditions, no wind, no crowds - it is about as epic as it gets. If you make the commitment go early, we can promise you'll be rewarded with the experience of a lifetime!
Evening Sail and Wildlife
We'll set sail from the Santa Cruz Harbor aboard the classic Westsail 42' Nomad, and head out into the Monterey Bay in search of smooth water, fair winds, and wildlife. We'll be in search of gray, humpback whales, and dolphins. Experiencing sea otters, harbor seals, sea lions, and myriad sea birds are virtually guaranteed. Later in the evening we'll take leisurely tacks back to the harbor. At this point you are in an ideal location to take a walk on the beach or have dinner at an excellent restaurant.
If you select the Private Experience button Nomad is yours for the experience, this is a private charter. This is the price for up to 6 passengers for 2 hours.

Forage Edible Plants & Mushrooms
Find out what you can eat in the woods! We'll hike in the lovely Santa Cruz mountains where I'll guide you on a beautiful, quiet 1-2 mile walk in the unique coastal oak & redwood forest. Together we'll learn the ancient ways of identifying edible and medicinal mushrooms, plants, roots, flowers, nuts and seeds (depending on the season. Goat Walk on The Beach
We are hosting a goat walk on the beach with two or more goats in our herd for individuals and groups. A few hours before our meeting time we prepare and transport our trained goats from our herd all the way down to the beach from our sanctuary to walk alongside you for a unique, once in a lifetime experience.
Our goats are very special goats nurtured from birth by Billie and her interns to develop a strong trusting relationship with people. Our goats love people and are very interested in getting to know the people they meet.
We will meet at the trail head that leads to a very magical and less frequented beach location. When we meet at the trail head location we will talk for about 10 minutes with tips on goat safety. We will also talk about goat companionship, interspecies communication, and the history of humans and goats plus lots more while we walk the trail to the beach guiding the goats along side us stopping to munch a bit. The path to the beach includes a beautiful forested landscape and a few flights of stairs so be prepared to walk some stairs. The walk down to the beach takes about 15 minutes. We will spend about 40 minutes on the beach with the goats.
This walk may be canceled if there are less than 4 guests booked. So invite friends!
Children are welcome to attend with adult supervision. The whole experience will last no longer than 90 minutes.

Macaron making with a Master Chef - Carmel by the Sea
Macarons are incredibly popular, pricey and one of the most difficult pastries to master. When I started, it took months of trial and error with the recipe, preparation, baking and temperatures.
You begin with learning what a great macaron is and then exactly how to create them from scratch. All the tips and tricks and common pitfalls are discussed. The idea and aim is that you should be able to create beautiful macarons at home!
We create macarons from the 4 basic ingredients and discuss how your macaronage (macaron batter) should look when it is ready to be piped.
We move on to how to perfectly pipe your macarons and how they should feel when properly cured and ready for the oven. Do not worry if you have never used a piping bag - I will teach you how!
We then fill our macarons discussing flavors, others types of fill.
In all, about 1.5 to 2 hours of solid, professional instruction. All tools, ingredients and recipes will be supplied.
You will leave with a full dozen macarons!
PS - An optional Macaron Kit $25 is available for purchase - includes: Silicone baking mat, piping tip, macaron piping bag, and buttercream piping bag. Once you sign up, message me and I will have a kit ready the day of your class.

Hiking the Gem of Santa Cruz
We'll begin with an introduction to each other and the map of the park, then begin hiking on a well-used dirt road in the open sunshine.
I'll stop frequently to point out various interesting flora and fauna; maybe we'll even see a banana slug! We'll take time to silently listen to the sounds of the forest and leave a hope, wish or prayer in a rock garden. Along the way you will learn how this redwood forest re-grew after being clear-cut in the mid 1800's to fuel lime kilns to extract lime out of limestone, and you'll get to see a historical lime kiln.
We’ll cross two small spring-fed stream beds. We'll visit a year-round natural spring where we can sit and appreciate the beauty of the forest. All during the hike I'll point out the different types of terrain and the types of plants that grow in each and I promise a few surprises along the way!
Other things to note: Dress in layers because the temperatures often fluctuate. Wear sturdy hiking boots or walking shoes and long pants with socks. There are no restrooms anywhere in the park. Dogs on leash are welcome, but please be prepared to clean up after your dog. If my dates/times do not work for you and you want a tour, please feel free to contact me and I'll work with you.
Sharing Sacred Space with Horses

They are incredibly fun, beautiful and educational! Each have a story to tell. You will have an opportunity to feed treats, groom them & learn each of their unique stories & personalities.
We are a non-riding facility. Our hope, is to share the beauty of horse, human relationships, based on mutual trust & understanding. We share how the horse is a valuable teacher, companion & confidant. Come enjoy the incredible wisdom of the horse, while walking among them, as they roam free on their beautiful pasture.
Secret History tours- Santa Cruz Afoot
Ever stay up till 2:00 am reading a murder mystery that you can't put down? Or watch a scary movie that gives you chills? My Murder Mystery/Ghostly History tour is designed like a good read with lots of dark stories of yesteryear. It has twist and turns that could give you a thrill or chill. All tours are sprinkel fun and dotted with humor.
Your tour starts on the footpath that runs along the San Lorenzo River next to an 100 year-old trestle bridge. This less-know area has a long history of ghostly tales. You will then walk along the 150 year old railroad tracks next to the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk is one of the oldest amusement park in United States and I have stories that go way back over 200 years. You will walk down the tracks to Cliff street where the tour takes a turn and heads up Beach Hill. Beach Hill is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Santa Cruz. It has an interesting collection of Victorian homes, secrets and stories. Stories about sea captains, serial killers, murders, drag racing, surfers and more. The tour ends at the Las Palmas Taco Bar near the wharf.
