For guests exploring the Brecon Beacons, Pen y Fan and Corn Du circular walks will exhaust and exhilarate. 45 minutes west of us is an easy-ish and favourite route up Pen-y-Fan. The Storey Arms route gently takes you right to the top of the highest peak in the Beacon Beacons. So you get the bragging rights but have an easier access walk than other routes. The route is a 4 mile circular walk that people with average fitness can tackle. Just before the ascent there are spectacular verdant views over the Neuadd Valley, swirling around your feet. From the summit on a clear day you will be rewarded with views that only the highest point at 886m in southern Britain can offer. Pen y Fan roughly translates as ‘Top Spot’, so that means there are many other peaks and ridges to walk if you have a greater fitness - a stimulating 11 mile circuit from the Storey Arms will allow you to also take in Corn Du (873m) and Cribyn (795m) down to the lower Neaudd reservoir. More walks over the border are available on the Visit Wales website. Please remember the Beacons’ weather is very changeable and the terrain is variable, so do please check before you set out that you can be safe and that you are prepared appropriately.
