The Family Table started as a root beer stand at least 65 years ago. No one knows for sure when it was opened. Many people say," It's just always been there." It was just a small building with picnic tables until 1972. And some say, a hundred years ago a family raised race horses on the land. In 1972 the existing building was built and it became Decorah's A&W. Years later it went through different owners and during the process the A&W franchise was dropped and it was renamed the Family Table. "Nothing fancy, just good food."

Great classic breakfasts. Good prices. We eat there every weekend when we are in town.

At Family Table, we’ve been serving up simply delicious comfort food for over three decades. Originally an A&W root beer stand as far back as the ‘50s, today the Family Table is a local landmark that was fully renovated in 2003. We’re a favorite here in Decorah, the kind of place you bring the family for a casual, feel-good meal. Dining with us feels like eating breakfast in grandma’s kitchen, except we serve it all day long: 6 AM to 8 PM, seven days a week! We also serve sandwiches, burgers, dinner entrees, and much more.
