Most drinkers visiting Rotherhithe for a beer end up in one of two pubs. There's the classy old Mayflower for those seeking an historic setting, or else there's the Angel for a cheap pint with river views. The former suffers from too many people in too little space; the latter from a consistently grumpy barman who's found an excuse to grumble at us on every visit. None of these problems affects The Ship. Despite its name, this smashing little pub is the most inland of the three. We were treated to a warm and friendly welcome, despite (we suspect) being the only non-locals in the bar. It's a very pleasant space in which to drink. Quiet little corners and comfortable benches fill the space.
