In the middle of the square, designed by Michelangelo, there is the equestrian statue of Marc Aurelius. Unbelievable, but true! Until the 1960s, an eagle and a she-Wolf, the symbols of Rome, were locked up in a cage at the foot of the Campidoglio Hill.

The Campidoglio, is the smallest of the seven hills of Rome and is the hill on which Rome was founded. The Campidoglio is also the seat of the municipality of Rome. It was designed by Michelangelo in the sixteenth century. At the center of the trapezoidal square is the statue of Marcus Aurelius. The square is surrounded by three palaces: the Palazzo Nuovo, the Palazzo Senatorio and the Palazzo dei Conservatori. The three house the Capitoline Museums, a very rich collection of finds from ancient Rome.

Campidoglio The smallest of the seven hills of Ancient Rome, Capitoline Hill is the most important. At the center of politics and religion in Rome, it solidified itself as the symbol of rome's reign. While the Capitoline Museums are home to Roman statues, inscriptions and other artifacts.
