Dedicated to Shintō deities of the sea and sea travel, this graceful shrine was founded in the early 3rd century and is considered the headquarters for all Sumiyoshi shrines in Japan. The most worthwhile heritage / cultural site in Osaka in my opinion. Way better than Osaka castle and Shitennoji temple.

Sumiyoshi Taisha is one of the most popular shrines in Osaka and favoured as a popular spot for New Years visits to the shrine or Hatsumode as it is known locally.
