With many cities and countries around the world encouraging people to stay at home to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), life can quickly feel monotonous. Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you’re alone.

After pausing Airbnb Experiences last month, we heard from countless hosts who believed they could offer a similar level of connection online. Thanks to the suggestion from our community, we’re excited to announce the launch of Online Experiences on Airbnb, allowing anyone isolating at home the opportunity to connect in small groups online.

    Travel the world from home
Online Experiences are led by inspiring hosts from over 30 countries—including Italy, Japan, Morocco, and Mexico—unlocking access to cultures and traditions from around the world. Hosts are already offering Online Experiences—like magic lessons, cooking classes, guided meditations, and more—through Zoom.

To ease the toll of social isolation for older adults, we’re offering free access to Online Experiences to seniors by partnering with organizations in the U.S., Italy, and Spain.

Stay connected to friends, family, and co-workers
Many people who’ve been working from home are missing in-person connections more than ever right now. Online Experiences can help friends, family members, and colleagues reconnect through group activities, including working out, making coffee with a professional coffee taster, and bartending lessons. Parents with children who miss interacting with their friends at school might enjoy activities like storytelling with crafts, creative drawing, and learning about rescue goats.

Groups will also have the option to reserve private Online Experiences if the host has enabled it. Hosts can mention Online Experiences that are a good fit for team building in the listing description, but you can still book other Online Experiences for your group that look fun—like meet the penguins for a child’s birthday party. To schedule a private Online Experience, click the host’s calendar to see the available dates, and click the option to “Book for a private group.”

As always, thanks for being part of our community. So much of our response has been guided by your personal stories, questions, and suggestions, and we’re going to keep finding ways to connect with you.
