Scenery, stars and walks are the special things that Tekapo has to offer; but also great places to dine out, hot pools to soak in, spectacular scenic flights, and of course in winter the skiing, ice skating and snow tubing....
This is a pristine lake in the middle of some wonderful alpine scenery. Soak in the hot pools or take a drive up Mt John (University of Canterbury observatory) - it's well worth it!
Three hours from Queenstown and you'll find yourself at Lake Tekapo. Tekapo is a picturesque town surrounded by the iconic teal-coloured lake and Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain. The whole area is a dark-sky reserve so star gazing is exceptional on a cloudless night, even better if you go to the observatory!
Lake Tekapo is a small town located at the southern end of the lake of the same name in the inland South Island of New Zealand. It had 558 residents according to the 2018 census, being one of five settlements in the sparsely populated Mackenzie Basin This is one of my many favorite places to visit in any time of season
