If your dog likes to run and play with other dogs be sure to take them to the 8th Avenue dog beach. If you are coming during the summer I'd recommend going in the am. Locals tend to go in the morning and it's a little more enjoyable. Summer evenings can be a bit out of control with the number of dogs and their owners from out of town. There are bathrooms and a hose right by the entrance to the beach. Not ideal for young kids. Dogs are always allowed on the beach between mid-September and mid-May. If you are visiting in summer, schedule an early morning or late evening visit, as dogs are not permitted between 8:30 am and 6:00 pm.
