Truly the best local beach if you want to get away from the crowds. It's best to come here at low tides when the beach is vast. There is no car park or toilets here and you just have to park on the narrow approach road to the beach and walk, but it's truly a stunning beach. Dogs are welcome on this beach all year round.

One of our closest and favourites, great if you're after smaller less busy places, with stunning walks along the stretches of sand at low tide and the possibility to walk over the river. We actually tend to go to the next beach as you walk a little further on the coastpath, approx 5 min, always quieter. Parking is free but limited on the side of the lane (narrow lane with passing places) so avoid arriving or leaving at the busiest times in the summer. There is an area for cars to turn around at the bottom of the lane just before the beach where you can also drop people & beach gear. The pub the Dolphin is a good place to stop by before or after ;-)

Wonwell Beach is at the mouth of the River Erme. It has on road car parking, no loos or food. No dog restrictions. As there is generally not a lot of surf (it is pretty sheltered), it is ideal for paddle boarding. It is best visited at low tide as the beach is minimal at high tide. At low tide you can paddle across the estuary. Not lifeguarded. It is about a 40 minute drive.
