Climbing the steps of Hermann the German is a New Ulm rite of passage. $3 per person. A great little adventure with fantastic views of New Ulm . If you're brave enough I think you can still access the top level through a little trap door. Open on weekends May, September and October and every day Memorial Day to Labor Day. Very nice playground on site with bathrooms, picnic gazebos, grills and water fountain. Locals like to use the grounds for graduations, weddings and reunions.

The 102-foot monument towers over New Ulm. You can climb the spiral staircase to an observation platform where you can see the panoramic town plus the Minnesota river valley.

He is a very important figure in New Ulm's history. It is very tall and easy to spot from most parts of the city. Not open in the winter.
