The most famous urban farm in Cuba, Organopónico de Alamar sits on 26 lush acres on the outskirts of town. It’s a co-op with many volunteers. The farming is done 100 percent without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Instead they use cow manure and raise insects for biological pest control. Salcines, the farm’s creator, is looking to the future. You can come here to volunteer and work and learn side by side with Cubans. They sell their organic fruits and vegetables at affordable prices, so stock up while you’re here!
