Great bang for your buck. Easier hike with lots of people but offers great views. Perfect hike to get acclimated to the altitude. Can be busy so go early or late in the day.
Beautiful lake with surprisingly emerald green water and amazing views. Hike the 401 or take the scenic drive up Washington Gulch Rd, then right at 734 through Paradise Basin and then right again down 317 to find this hidden gem in the mountains.
Bear lake to Emerald lake is a great 4mi hike. Traction is necessary to enjoy any hike in RMNP before the snow really starts to melt in June. These trails are all very popular and parking can be a challenge. You may have to park at the visitor center in Estes and Shuttle in.
If you can only do one hike... do this one. It's a great hike in the Summer months and a beautiful snow shoe trail in the winter months. The view from Emerald Lake to Hallet Peak is one of the most iconic and famous shots in the park. Get to the Bear Lake Trail Head EARLY! In the Winter you should be there by 8am. In the Summer 7am. If not, you will not find parking and will need to take a shuttle from lower lot. If you are in RNMP in the Winter time? This is OUR favorite snow shoe trek to do when there is snow. You can rent snowshoes from a rental shop for under $10.
