Churchill Barriers constructed between 1940 and 1944. These were built as a naval defence. They link the mainland of Orkney to the islands of South Ronaldsay, Glimps Holm and Lamb Holm. Travelling over the barriers provides the visitor with beautiful views over the flow. There are stopping points between the barriers. Be aware that during strong winds and high tides the barriers may be closed.
