The beach at Holkham is one of the most unspoilt and beautiful stretches of sand in the country. The beaches at Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham form part of a unique landscape, rich in wildlife and one which we need your help to protect. The area is popular with dog walkers throughout the year, it is just advised to keep them under close supervision.
Stunning views (as featured in Shakespeare in Love). Beautiful 40-minute or so walk from Wells along the beach or through the pinewoods. Parking (not free) available along Lady Anne's Drive. There is a small but perfectly formed cafe (and facilities) at the bottom of Lady Anne's Drive, at the entrance to the bay.
It makes you feel so good to be at Holkham Bay - wide open space and big skies! One of the most beautiful places in Norfolk!! An hour drive along the coast road from Moonrise Cottage or go on the Sanders CH1 Coastal Hopper bus! Get off at Wells and change onto number 36 bus to the Victoria pub, Holkham Hall. A short walk past the Visitors Centre, with toilets and coffee/food, brings you down to the enormous, white sand beach stretching as far as the eye can see! Wild birds, deer, horse riders can be seen. The deer are in the woods just inland of the beach.
