Its off the beaten path and that is a good thing. Go early in the morning with a cup of coffee and go for a walk. You can see driftwood. Its free. And you can bring your dog.
Higbee Wildlife management preserve has the best bird watching in New Jersey - the beach is prime location for local and migrant species - bring your hiking shoes and spend time in nature.
Higbee Beach is a popular place to find Cape May diamonds, quartz crystals rounded and polished by the sea. Higbee Beach experiences one of the world's largest migrations of birds in North America. During the spring and summer, several species of birds including Blue Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting, Yellow-breasted Chat, and Prairie Warbler breed at the beach.
If you prefer a more natural setting, this is a great beach and its even dog friendly. It's a bit of walk to get to once you park, but definitely worth it.
