Explore the old mine workings, canals and tramways and visit the discovery centre.
This area has many china clay works and this museum ie excellent at explaining the history of china clay in Cornwall.
A very interesting working exhibition of China Clay production over the past century with access to views of current clay pit production. If geology, engineering, history or mining interest you then you must visit. I love the working water wheel, access to the coal fired clay dries and the mica dams. China clay is still produced locally in Cornwall but using very different mechanical methods. The working models of mine engines should keep young engineers entertained. The cafe at the end of the visit offers very good light bites for brunch or lunch. There is also a large park with wooded walks if you have longer to spend. Well worth a visit if you want to know more about the Cornish Alps.

There’s plenty to capture children's imaginations from giant waterwheels to vintage trucks, a train plus a fantastic adventure play area where they can let off steam in the fresh air.
