We were all children once, and Pollock’s houses a huge collection of the sort of toys most of us would’ve been overjoyed to receive from Father Christmas before we gave up believing in him and just wanted something electronic. These are proper toys, mostly Victorian, and the place feels Dickensian with more than a whiff of Harry Potter. Don’t miss the bizarre 4,000-year-old Egyptian toy mouse made of clay, with a wagging tail and wooden tongue that moves. There’s an area dedicated to toy theatres, with amazing paper puppets you move about on sticks. This is a place for adults and children—it’s not Hamleys!

This quirky museum of old playthings is housed in a pair of wonderfully creaky, unrestored Georgian townhouses. A £9 ticket allows you to shimmy your way through six tiny rooms packed with board games, marbles, money boxes, puppets, wax dolls, toy theatres, doll’s houses and wonderful, intricately detailed model shops, as well as the world’s oldest surviving teddy and a 4,000-year-old mouse made from Nile clay. By turns beguiling and creepy, it’s fascinating for adults who want a hit of nostalgia. www.pollockstoymuseum.co.uk

Pollock's Toy Museum is a small museum in London, England. It was started in 1956 in a single attic room at 44 Monmouth Street, near Covent Garden, where Pollock's Toy Theatres were also sold.
Pollock’s Toy Museum, a quirky museum of old playthings is housed in a pair of wonderfully creaky, unrestored Georgian townhouses. Pollock’s is named after Benjamin Pollock, the last of the Victorian toy theatre printers.
Crammed inside two townhouses (one 18th, the other 19th century) on a pretty sidestreet you'll find this historic haven for toys of all kinds.
