Dinefwr Park National Nature Reserve is an 800 acres estate about 1 mile from the centre of Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire owned by the National Trust, with a mansion in the centre, a landscaped deer park, lake and trails. The highest point is occupied by the ruined Dinefwr Castle, ancient castle of the Deheubarth kingdom. Located just 5 miles from the barns (SA19 6RT) it makes for a great day out. Non national trust members pay £5 to park for the day and £8 to enter Newton Mansion House. There is an indoor/outdoor café for refreshments and toilets. Alternatively you can easily park for free on the road outside of the reserve and walk in. Once inside the reserve you can enjoy endless walks, visit the deer park, enjoy a picnic and walk up to the castle ruins, all of this for free of charge. Castle woods look amazing in the spring with a carpet of bluebells. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead at times.
